Winston S Churchill

Winston Spencer Churchill was born in 1874 and died 91 years later.
He was one of the greatest men in GB. He did great things and he will always be remembered as the amazing man he was.
Churchill was a politician, a writer and an officer. He got the Nobel prize in literature in 1953. Ten years later he became the honorary citizen of America.
On 10th May 1940 he became Britain's Prime Minister and kept it that way until 27th July 1945.
He grew up in London and Dublin with his mother, father and his six years younger brother. His parents sent him to a boarding school when he was eight. Where the teacher said he was a naughty boy! Because he didn’t want to learn all the things the teacher told him to.
He grew up and became a very wise man.
During the world war 1 Churchill was First Lord of the Admiralty. But he was still fighting with them. He survived!
When the second world war started, in 1939, Chamberlain was the Prime Minister. He was one of the men who believed that if they just gave Hitler Czechoslovakia he would stop his aggression against the other European countries. They even made Hitler sign a paper which promised that he would not start a war. Chamberlain was very happy with that and when he arrived back in GB he held the paper high and said ”Peace in our time!”. Only one year later Hitler invaded Poland.  Half a year later he invaded Norway and Denmark. That’s what showed that Chamberlain´s politics against Hitler had failed completely. That’s when Churchill took office as Prime Minister and he was very well prepared for the task. He said that ”I felt as if I were walking with destiny, and that all past life had been but a preparation for this hour and for this trial... I thought I knew a good deal about it all, I was sure I should not fail”.
The biggest difference between Chamberlain and Churchill was that Chamberlain always talked about ”evil men” but never that they were going to win or something like that. When Churchill held his first speech, he said: "Victory! Victory, whatever the cost. Victory, however long and hard the road may be". There was something about him that made people feel like they could trust him. They all saw the fire burning in his eyes when he so passionate held his speeches. That was one of the reasons why they changed prime minister for the war. Chamberlain was greater when it was about the economy and stuff like that.
On December 26th in 1941 Churchill addressed to the United States to tried to convince them to fight alongside with the British soldiers. He held a big speech in the US congress.
He succeeded. They entered the war and became an ally to GB and Soviet.
Churchill was 65 years old when he took office.  Despite his age he had more energy than the previous prime ministers. He realized that he had to set a good example and worked very hard, long and with a high pace. He woke up at 7.00 AM and started his day with a lot of paper work. Around lunch he left his home and went to the war cabinet room, where he had fast discussions and decisions with his group in the war cabinet. After that he did all the ”face-time” (all the public appearances). When the time showed 17.00 PM he went to bed and took a power nap for one hour in his pajamas. When he had slept and eaten he continued to work for another 5-6 hours and didn’t go to bed before 00.00. No one was allowed to wake him up for any reason except if GB was being invaded. All the days during the world war 2 looked like that. No excuses, he always worked 16 hours a day.
He was unafraid and very impulsive. He had like ten new ideas every day and that made him a hard person to work for, Alan Brooke said, who was his chief of staff. There are also today some very famous quotes you can still hear people say.
One of the most famous ones is: ”Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.” And it really was. That was the speech he held after the British victory at the second fight at El Alamein in 1942.
In 1945 he lost the election but was still in the parliament. In 1951 he became prime minister one more time, he kept it that way for four years.
He never stopped working, he was an ”workaholic”. On top of everything else he wrote six book about his time during the second world war.

My words:
That man is someone we all really should look up to. Without him the whole world could be owned by Hitler. You can say that he saved the whole world. That’s a pretty amazing thing to do on your own.  He did so much things to the rest of the world. He worked like 16 hours a day just to save his country, who many people would do that? When he understood that something was wrong he held speeches so people would understand! And people really did. I think every people should be that brave as Churchill. He was an alcohol abuser and smoked a lot cigars but he was still cool. He said that “I have taken more out of alcohol than alcohol has taken out of me.”

The V-sign he is doing on the picture stands for victory!
